Album Description

Cherry Red Records reissue of cult album for the highly original & innovative technological funksters, Fashion. The band moved the musical boundaries with their unique blend of synths, bass lines & infectious pop in the early 1980's. The CD features all their best loved tracks from their 'heyday' with the cult singles 'Streetplayer-Mechanik', 'Move On', 'Love Shadow' & 'Something In Your Picture' included. Fashion still enjoy a strong reputation for their pioneering recordings that paved the way for many other artists in the 80's. They together with cult German record producer, Zeus B Held made recordings that influenced many recording giants including Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Trevor Horn, Depeche Mode & many more. 2001.

J. Donato Said: Decadent Techno-Funk ( Jul. 19th 2009 )

This is decadent techno-funk just made for cruising the slick, night streets of Berlin at 4:00 AM in your DeLorean. If cocaine were music, this album would be the result. The band declared that this album was designed as accompaniment for "screwing and taking drugs" and I wouldn't dispute that. The slink factor here is off the map.

Zeus B. Held's production technique reached its acme here with the height of analog technology mixing beautifully with the nascent digital tech of the day. This album sounds like it cost a fortune in 1982 dollars and you can hear every cent spent. Vocalist De Harris' surgical guitar licks heighten the tension. The result is my favorite white funk album ever [sorry Heaven 17!].

The content of this disc is that of the album "Fabrique" albeit reshuffled, with some bonus tracks at the end of the program. A word about the bonus tracks. The cut "Love Shadow Smokey Dialogue" is not the same cut as on the A-side of the "Love Shadow" UK 12" (which has the same title) on Arista ARIST 12483. It is a shorter, alternative mix. I believe that all of the bonus tracks are from the double play UK cassette since I have all of the UK 7" and 12" singles from this album period, and most of these cuts are not represented on those, with the exception of "Streetplayer Mechanik (Mutant Mix Mechanik)."

This band is truly underrated. A fantastic complex neo romantic band in the genre of Visage, Gang of Four, Midge Ure. Every time I hear these tracks I wonder why they never had the success they deserve. Beautiful.

Probably the band Fashion is not formost on your mind. Why? Under rated as this band seems to be they pack a wallop when it comes to "hook" time; might I say. Please add this one to your eclectic CD collection for the sake of great music. Believe it or not they have about twelve CD's out. Get hip and enjoy great tunes.

Martin Said: Sound of their own ( Feb. 12th 2006 )

Heard this band in my mid-teens (I'm an oldish fart now) and since have heard a lot of styles of music and can honestly say this is a band that had a stlye of playing and production of their own.

I've heard it described once as 'Level 42' played backwards yet making sense!!! Not sure about that, however what I can say is that these songs have stayed in my head ever since and will do so till the day I meet my maker! Unique and extraordinary stuff.

I defy anyone to listen to the track Slow Blue and not get shivers down their spine... an absolute must have for a music collection. It may take years to fully hear everything. 5 stars.

Glenn Johnson Said: THIS IS NOT A BEST OF COLLECTION ( Jan. 1st 2006 )

This is basically the Fabrique album with a few extended cuts thrown in. However I would like to meet the person responsible for putting this CD together so I can slap them across the head for not putting the album version of "Something In Your Picture" on this CD. What in gods name made them think that this alternate version was any match for the original? stupid move.
